Kayode Aponmade
Recently, new Vice-Chancellors were appointed in some Nigeria Universities without the twists and turns that have characterized the process
of appointment of a new VC for Federal University, Oye Ekiti.
This is because in those Universities, excellence, competencies, and due process were placed over mediocrity and selfish interests.
The Vice-Chancellors of those Universities, as well as the Governing Council Chairmen, did not have anointed candidates hence, due process took its course and best candidates emerged.
However, the case is different in FUOYE as verifiable facts revealed that the principal actors involved in the process, particularly in the likes of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kayode Soremekun, the University Bursar Mrs. Bolatito Akande and the University controversial Registrar Mr. ODUSANYA Olatunbosun Sunday are hell-bent on imposing one Prof. ADIMULA Isaac Abiodun against all odds.
This parochial and selfish interest of this few individuals is compounding the woes of the selection process rather than channel a better way out of the impasse confronted thus far. This action of been hell-bent on imposing Prof. Adimula for the position and seeing him through the selection process at all cost further put credence to the wide belief that some high-level corruption and illegality perpetrated by Prof. Soremekun and the duo of Mrs. Akade and Mr. Odusanya needs to be covered and hence a stooge like Adimula needs to be implanted to help perfect the dirty  jobs.
It is this desperate attempt of illegally installing Adimula that has being delaying the selection process as some of the upright and unbribable Governing Council Members have insisted on following due process despite all attempt to buy them over.
Plans are ripe to adopt a wrong template for scoring the candidates and then jettison the approved template of the regulating authority (NUC). It is only in FUOYE that Vice-Chancellorship applicants would be assessed without recourse to academic publications, administrative experience and teaching experience. Hence, distance learning experience is taking credence over these prerequisite requirements as stipulated in NUC guidelines. This is just to favour their anointed Prof. Adimula since it is believed that it is his area of strength.
Prof. Kayode Soremekun’s desperation is borne out the fact that he wants his dirty tracks covered and to also be relevant in the control of the University Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) after his tenure as VC, that is the reason why he has entered into an unholy pact with Prof. Isaac Abiodun Adimula, the Bursar and the Registrar so as to continually impoverish the University community for another five years.
The public should note that Prof. Kayode Soremekun and his cohorts have been threatening some of the internal and external members of the University Governing Council and trying to induce them financially so as to make them to succumb to the pressures of installing Prof. Adimula over more competent and qualified candidates.
As part of their grand scheme, they have perfected arrangements to sponsor false and negative security report against some applicants for the job whom they believe might emerge if due process is eventually followed. This is worthy of noting!
DEFIANCE AGAINST NUC EXECUTIVE SECRETARY’S WARNING AND DIRECTIVES
Recently, the Executive Secretary of NUC at the instance of the Minister of Education summoned parties involved in the FUOYE VC appointment and gave a strong warning to
Prof. Kayode Soremekun never to interfere with the VC appointment processes again.
However, out of blatant disobedience to the directive of the Executive Secretary, Soremekun defied the instructions and warnings of the ES and attended the Selection Committee’s meeting of Wednesday 16th December, 2020.
This made some members of the Governing Council who were threatened and embarrassed by the insubordination of Prof Soremekun to stage a walk out of the meeting. It took the intervention of the Governing Council Chairman after disgracefully sending the VC out of the meeting venue before the aggrieved members could return to the meeting.
The VC was then mandated to write an apology letter to the Council for that act of insubordination and disrespect to the constituted authority, a copy of which we believe has been turned in to the Council Chairman.
RECKLESSNESS UNDER SOREMEKUN
Kayode Soremekun has been very reckless with the resources of the University in the last five years. He and his cohorts (Olatunbosun Odusanya and Bolatito Akande) have been spending both the Internally Generated Revenue and external grants of the University without approval from the University Governing Council and without recourse to the financial regulations. FUOYE students are the highest paying Federal University students in Nigeria and yet, the staff of the University is starved with their legitimate entitlements.
Contracts and recruitments racketeering have no limits under Prof. Soremekun's watch. In the last ten months when the whole world have been dealing with Covid-19 and its economic impacts, Kayode Soremekun and his cohorts have illegally recruited over 200 personnel in FUOYE without advertisement, submission of application or interview. IPPIS has been tricked to come over to the University to capture the illegally recruited Staff on more than two occasions during the lockdown under the guise that some Academic Staff under ASUU are the ones willing to register on IPPIS platform.
A controversial Distance Learning contract was recently awarded to compensate one Prof. Jegede, the former VC of NOUN who was a former boss of Mr. Olatunbosun Odusanya. Under  the contract,  certain percentage of the proceeds of the program will be going to Prof. Jegede out of which Soremekun,  Mrs. Akande and Mr. Odusanya will also be drawing their kick backs thereby causing a capital flight on the resources of the University.
The same Prof. Jegede has been appointed to be the resource person (Consultant) for a proposed illegal ICT proficiency test for short listed applicants for the Vice-Chancellor position. What will be the level of fairness expected from such test where the Consultant is having an interest to be protected?
Some of these atrocities of Kayode Soremekun and his cohorts are not new as he has files with the Economic and Financial Crime Commissions (EFCC), and he has so far escaped justice by constantly bribing his way through.
The continual stay of Prof. Soremekun as the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE when it is obvious that he has hidden and nefarious agendas is not healthy for the University.
For the umpteenth time, we call on the Honourable Minister of Education, Executive Secretary NUC, FUOYE Governing Council, all the Unions in FUOYE and all the stakeholders in Nigeria Education sector to rise and put an end to this imperious, undemocratic and tyrannical mode of operation and selection of Vice-Chancellor for FUOYE.
Signed
FUOYE INTEGRITY GROUP.

If there is any institution that needs to have a perfect and serene atmosphere, it is the University Community, the citadel of learning. This is because the best professionals, egg heads, that make the world goes round are moulded in the university. And so the academic personnel, equipping the society intellectually must be in the right frame of mind to impact the right knowledge.
When the contrary is the order of the day, it gives room for serious concern.
The underground crisis rocking the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) must not be allowed to degenerate into an unpalatable proportion. The issue concerns the current Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin), Prof Abayomi Sunday Fasina and the purported insistence of the sitting Vice Chancellor, Prof Kayode Soremekun to install Fasina as his successor.
On the 2nd of Nov 2020, a petition was directed to the Pro-Chancellor/ Chairman of Council through the Hon Bayo Idowu & Co of Joseph Chambers Ado-Ekiti. Before the petition, similar letters were exchanged with Ekiti State University. It was the response from EKSU that informed this petition.
The main reason for the petition is summarized as; SALARY FRAUD.
The union alleged that Professor Fasina received double remuneration from FUOYE and EKSU between Oct 2016 and Feb. 2017.
Other issues raised in the petition are:
That Prof Fasina's recruitment into FUOYE from EKSU was fraudulent, as it did not follow due process.
The report from EKSU had indicted Prof Fasina.
The condition of service should be applied by placing him on interdiction from FUOYE pending determination of his case on salary fraud.
Prof Fasina should give way for proper, unhindered and transparent investigation, by stepping aside as the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin).
On the process of appointing the new VC, the interview by the FUOYE VC should be postponed indefinitely.
Prof Fasina was contacted about this case and in defending himself in a FOUYE News bulletin, he claimed to have been cleared of fraudulently receiving double salaries, just because he had refunded (6) months salary collected illegally.
It was alleged that the Vice Chancellor Prof Kayode Soremekun constituted a hasty panel to clear Fasina, in a grand design of installing him as his successor, thereby institutionalizing fraud in FUOYE.
Hitherto, the VC was accused of converting a non-experienced Director of Administration (recruited by the VC) to the Office of Registrar, a Principal Officer.
There is no confidence and trust in the administration of the outgoing VC, Prof Kayode Soremekun and Council to supervise the selection and appointment of the new VC having failed to do it in accordance with the law since August 20, 2020, when the post was previously advertised.
The Minister of Education and National University Commission (NUC) are invited to note that the Bursar, Registrar and the outgoing VC of the University are from National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and the consultant for VC interview, Professor Jegede is also a former VC of NOUN.
The Federal Government and NUC are advised to appoint an acting Vice Chancellor to oversee the process of selection and appointment of a new VC for FUOYE, in view of these revelations.
One of the Senior Staff at FUOYE said that, 'despite the numerous protests, the Vice Chancellor is bent on using the council to institutionalize fraud', he disclosed.
There is the belief that the local ASUU has been muzzled so as to continue to dance to the tune of the university authority.
Concerned citizens across the globe are pleading with the stakeholders; the Presidency, Ministry of Education, the State Government, National University Commission and the Traditional Rulers, to prevail on the authorities in charge to conduct a forensic investigation concerning the issues raised.
Issues like this should not be overlooked for sentiments or to satisfy individual interest because when the people are pushed to the wall the resultant effect may be devastating.
We need to learn a lot from the violence that greeted the #ENDSARS protests, which resulted in grievous human causalities and huge financial loss.
LET US BE WISE.

The coordinator of FEMLSO, Lagos Female Lawyers In Politics, Mrs Abimbola Badia Jack Oladugba, has urged the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu not to relent in his efforts to curtail the incessant increase in Rape and Gender-Base Violence (GBV) particularly Rape.
The woman activist stated that the reasons behind the increase in the criminal behavior are the unimaginable culture of silence for fear of stigmatization and nonchalant attitude of families and close associates of victims of rape.
Oladugba stressed further that the porous security system also contributed to the vulnerability of innocent and discerning women and children in the society.
She added that adequate legal structure should be immediately put in place by governments in a quest to seriously address the activities of the rampaging rapists across the nation.
Mrs Jack Oladugba also posited that it’s high time the government promulgated laws against rape attracting stiffer penalty like life imprisonment and or death sentence upon conviction to legitimately protect Nigerian women and children.
In the same token, the group General  Secretary, Adefowoke Ayo-Ponle condemned the increasing rate of the perpetration of the heinous crime of rape and defilement.
Describing the spate as alarming, Ayo-Pole said it calls for serious and continuous advocacy from government, organizations and all concerned in breaking the stereotype culture of silence.
“The government should put in place more measures to protect the survivors of the heinous crime for speaking up, and also bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.
It is also important to reiterate that government should put in adequate funding for proper investigation and preservation of evidence, the Nigerian Police Force should be re-orientated through continuous training.
Survivors of this crime should not be stigmatized by the public, while proper counseling be provided for them”. She advised.

GOV.
OYETOLA MAY FAIL WITH UNPOPULAR PARTY  LEADERSHIP.
OLUWASEUN ASIWAJU
Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola appears to the people of Osun as a bridge builder and agent of progress to consolidate the achievements of his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and amend some of the ideology complaints during the period.
Oyetola, a quiet and prudent manager of human and material resources has been able to perform creditably well within the space of eighteen months without owing salary or applying half Salaries as it was the case in the immediate past.
Some of his giant strides are noticeable in the area of Rehabilitation and revitalization of primary health centers across the state, the continuation of Osogbo East bye pass from Ilesa Motor Park through Oke Bale to stadium area of the state which is enjoying great applause of citizens of the state.
Without noise making, no blame shifting to anyone, the incumbent has also constructed road network of Alekuwodo area of Osogbo, the capital city of the state.
In the areas of environmental sanitation and home affairs, the Osun/ Gbodofon River is being dredged continuously with the plan to plant trees on its bank which is currently ongoing.
The government also provided succor to the vulnerable during the lockdown period occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic that is still ravaging the world.
Education reform of this administration is remarkable and devoid of anti-human face. Same School uniform policy is no more, female students found in boys only school during the Aregbesola's Administration has come to an end among other reforms and reversals.
But looking critically, his cabinet is congested by technocrats and many who do not understand Osun political terrain and lacking in voting strength.
Knowing very well the political acumen of the governor and his deputy, one would quickly conclude they are not professional politicians, thus some notable and valuable politicians in the party and beyond must be called back to  line for political advancement of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun state.
Effective cabinet and party restructuring must take place, if the governor wants to come back for second tenure.
Few commissioners, like the commissioner for works and transport, Remi Omowaye, a technocrat and politician whose political wheel and performance have helped the current administration to achieve laudable feat within short period in office.
The education commissioner, Hon. Folorunso Bamisayemi has also done well in restructuring the education policies.  And the commissioner for Finance Bola Oyebamiji, a technocrat who is a strong member of the party with indefatigable capacity to attract votes in lrewole/lsokan Local government areas.
Commissioner for Home Affairs, Tajudeen Lawal is another powerful grassroot politician who is a core politician in Ile ife and its environs with immense contributions to the victory of the incumbent administration in Ife East during the last gubernatorial elections.
Hon. Adebayo Adeleke, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs is also rooted in politics and he understands Osun politicking and his personality is worthy of retaining in the cabinet.
The governor needs to retain hon. Rufus Oyegbile Adeyemi, S.A, on environment for the good job and his political wheel in his domains. Dr. Olasunkami Isamotu may not be an astute politician like some other cabinet members mentioned above, but he has shown proficiency in handling Covid-19 pandemic cases in the state.
Meanwhile, at the party level, the governor should not hesitate to restructure the working committee of the party and sacrifice the position of the chairman that came from Osun central now the governor is from the same senatorial district as antecedence has revealed that Hon Biyi Adelowo who was the care-taker committee chairman during Aregbesola was removed as a result of separation of power, equity, fairness and spread of responsibility among the stakeholders in the party.
Governor Oyetola should emulate the National leader of their party,  Asiwaju Bola Hammed Tinubus ideology by sacrificing and forfeiting particular political positions to friends and cronies for party to remain at the top.
Governor Oyetola will only remain in Osun politics as a leader and second time governor, if able to manage the political storm in the party APC and install another chairman from the Osun East Senatorial and allow will of the people to prevail.
Oluwaseun Asiwaju is the General Secretary of Osun Youth Amalgamation.

EVALUATING THE PATH TO 2022 GOVERNORSHIP RACE IN OSUN.
According to a popular maxim, journey of a thousand miles starts with a step”. Simply put, what naturally determines successful endpoint of every journey at a desired destination solely rests on the direction and pattern of the first step.
Obviously, a first step must be consciously taken towards the right path and follow with required determination and concentration for quick and successful arrival at a preferred destination.
Talking about political expedition and politicking, ability and chances of any political party to get political machinery and dominate political power will be determined by the quality of strategy and structure, including the strength of characters of those that constitute its commanding height.
The abysmal performance of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2018 gubernatorial election was conditioned not only by presenting a character of lesser sophistication as its flag bearer, but absence of robust party structure, comprising of sound minds and committed foot soldiers.
As it stands now, the ongoing internal strife and bitterness within the PDP continued to create terrible crack in its wall. The controversial indefinite suspension of Hon. Soji Adagunodo as the chairman of the party, and the subsequent emergence of Hon. Akande Atidade, from Ede, to pilot the affairs of the party in acting capacity will continue to expand the scope of imbroglio in the party.
Analysing issues within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, one could easily deduce that the party is in for a terrible experience with its present weak leadership.
It is no more news that the incumbent chairman of the party, Prince Gboyega Famodun, having being in charge for years, is seemingly fatigued as he always falls asleep at public functions irrespective of the nature and importance of the event.
Famodun was a member of the Caretaker Committee of the party at the time when Alhaji Moshood Adeoti was the interim chairman of the party, he later became the Secretary of the  party when Hon. Biyi Adelowo chaired the party, before becoming substantive Chairman .
Analysts inferred that Prince Famodun lacks requisite interest of the party at heart, by his selfish and parochial move to go for the second term, even after the incumbent governor, Mr Adegboga Oyetola, has emerged from the Central Senatorial District, the same Senatorial district that produced Famodun.
It is a general perception among the people that the only indices of political participation and influence in a democracy are equity and fairness.
The leadership configuration in the state is presently structured in such direction where governorship is being zoned to the Central and the West Senatorial Districts. Going by the places of birth of Mr Gboyega Oyetola and his Deputy, Benedict Alabi, It is therefore illogical and irrational to return a man from the Central Senatorial District as Chairman of the party again.
Moreover, the APC at this time needs a man of huge electoral pedigree to chair the party for the singular purpose of massive mobilization at the home front. Unfortunately, the ancestral home of Famodun at Igbajo remains one of the towns in Osun with least electoral strength and value.
This fact must be taken seriously by Governor Oyetola and his handlers, they must have it at the back of their minds that electoral value of party leadership goes a long way to determine degree of success of the party in any contest.
It now behoves the incumbent governor and other stakeholders to start looking inward and pick a sellable candidate with robust political credentials and clout as replacement for Famodun without delay. Sincerely, such move is non-negotiable and pertinent for the party if truly it desires success in the election of 2022.
Loyal and core party  man,  with nobility is needed for the job, a fellow that is capable of mobilising youth, and settling  pending disagreement and as well strengthening the party.

He later had his vocational training in carpentry and joinery at Olukorede Furniture Industry between 1965 and 1970.
Alongside his career in carpentry, Alagba Aderemi had a fair taste of both public and private services as he worked as a Grade II Officer with the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ibadan, Western State of Nigeria from 1970 to 1977.

Despite his expected tight schedule, Olofa-Ina has really paid his dues to his home town, Ede as he holds his domain in high esteem and this is evident in the fact that he is the President of Timi Agbale Descendants Union Mosifa Area, Ibadan Branch, where he lived until his return to his place of birth and home town, Ede.
It is on record too that Alagba Adedeji Aderemi Olofa-Ina was given a mandate to present a live performance of the history of Agbale Olofa Ina and Alapo Ti Emi Ti Emi  at the 2010 Ede Day Celebration by the Professor Siyan Oyeweso led Ede Mapo Arogun Day Planning Committee.
He did a great deal of justice to the well attended stage production, another clear testimony that Olofa-Ina is a worthy patriotic son of the soil. Olofa-Ina, an accomplished Thespian enjoys his leisure on farming, driving, script writing and reading.
Olofa-Ina is also a great mentor to many aspiring and upcoming artistes, a fact which was attested to by Mrs. Tola Oladokun: I used to sell clothes before I started acting in 1983. I indicated my interest in arts and I was accepted by the veteran, Deji Aderemi, also known as Olofa Ina in Ibadan, Oyo State. I tried combining my business with acting. But at the time, I was envied by some of my peers then because I knew how to read and write; those were some of the challenges I faced. They tried to plot against me, but my boss, Olofa-Ina was always on my side.
Olofa-Ina was also one of the prominent artistes honored by the Osun State Government at the 20th anniversary of the state in 2011.
Olofa-Ina is also famous for the rich Yoruba proverbs and idioms that punctuate his lines in various films and stage plays including his April 2020 interview with BBC Yoruba.

COVID -19: CHANGING THE PERSPECTIVES OF HUMAN EXISTENCE

Death, they say is inevitable, but to be candid, no person wants to die even with the undisputable notice. Ever since the menace of ravaging killer disease Corona Virus Disease, COVID-19 erupted, humanity across the globe has been living with apprehension, fear and uncertainties.

The reasons are not far-fetched. The corona virus has claimed almost 5% of the world population and the pandemic keeps ravaging across the world claiming lives on daily basis.

The genesis of this lethal disease emanated from Wuhan in The Peoples Republic of China and surprisingly, the highest casualty rose sporadically in European countries of Italy, Spain, France and England among others.

However, it was no sooner that the feared disease crept into Africa where it has also claimed a frightening number of lives.

In Nigeria, Covid-19 related deaths have risen to 58 as at the time of filing report.  Today, Nigerians are apprehensive and jittery knowing full well that the long arm of Corona virus is no respecter of anyone regardless of status, colour, religion, race and position.

In a quest exterminate the intimidating disease out of the country, President Muhammad Buhari initially declared a two-week total Lockdown which was later extended to another two weeks and an additional one week respectively.

But, as the government strive to obey global preventive standard as advised by the World Health Organization, WHO, many Nigerians did not understand the motives behind the Lockdown complaining of hunger and suffering during the stay at home order.

A visit to many homes reveals the level of confronting poverty and abject lack. But, with the recent announcement by the President to ease the Lockdown order allowing conditional partial movement from Monday, 4 May, 2020, Nigerians became relieved a bit.

The partial movement, according to a cross section of Nigerians, will enable people work and recover part of the losses their individual businesses might have suffered during the COVID-19 holiday.

The COVID-19 pandemic has however exposed the ineptness and corruption of past administrations for failure to provide standard healthcare service for the discerning Nigerians.
